Limited Capacity seats available

The Intricacies of textile piecing are vast and varied and the hunt is on to get complicated looking, impressive results with the easiest and simplest methods. So it is with this Basket Weave technique.
This has been used in elementary school classrooms since the dawn of affordable, colored paper with excellent results! Take two layers of different colors, cut the lines, turn one piece 90 degrees and weave. Granted, there needs to be some adaptations with the use of fabrics especially if you DETEST Raw Edges! Swap Shop - Lesson Plan Share Session
Limited Capacity seats available

The Swap Shop is a section of the conference where delegates from will get together in their subject areas to share and swap lesson plans.  We ask all delegates to bring something to share!

How it Works:
  1. Click the Dropbox link
  2. Save your document as a Word or PDF file
  3. Name the file in the proper format (see below; this makes it easy to sort the files later)
  4. Upload the file to the Dropbox

An email will also be sent out inviting all teachers to share a document in a Dropbox folder. Teachers should submit either Word or PDF files. The title of the file should be named the following way (to make organizing  simpler):

Subject - Division Level - Title of Lesson - Teacher Name

Examples:
Drama - Division 4 - Improv Lesson - Wheeler
Art - Division 1 - Finger Painting - Janson
Music - Division 2 and Division 3 - Learning Music Scales - Mr Dee

Once all the files from delegates have been submitted to the Dropbox, the FAC Executive will reorganize them by subject and by division level (this is why it is important to label files correctly).  When this is done the email link to view the folder will be emailed out to all delegates. The files will be sorted and the link shared again following the conference.

So, submit something to swap and share!

This session will involve participants in a lively hands-on experience and furnish them with ready-to-use assessment strategies for the classroom. Music specialists and classroom teachers will leave this session with engaging ideas and effective ways to assess student learning in music. Be ready to participate, and have fun!

Visual Art Session 5A: Art Throwdown!
Limited Capacity seats available

What is an Art Throwdown?

The Art Throwdown brings students from either classes in the same school or other schools to engage in a different kind of art competition. Similar to a competitive reality show on television, each young artist is faced with a challenge: drawing when you cannot see your hands or the paper; drawing from live models; and working with a group of artists to construct a sculpture in 30 minutes or less... the idea is to bring high school artists together and really provide a live experience with visual art where friends, family, and the
larger community can get a closer look at the creative process. Student artists get hands-on experience geared towards the next level of artistic expression and learning, and showcasing what the visual arts are really all about - thinking!

This session will include a handout on the Throwdown concept, discussion and then a mini Throwdown “Artist Face Off” with session participants involving 3-4 minute visual art contests using a variety of mediums, critiquing and then selecting who will go on to the next round until a winning team is declared.

There is an additional materials fee of $5.00, payable on our conference registration site or at the session.
